After the highlight of the day - lunch, delegates and chairs gather at UNODC again to vote for 2 resolutions suggested by 2 different blocs. One led by the US and another led by Switzerland.
The resolution sent by the bloc of US wishes to reinforce stricter restrictions and use deterrent tools such as advanced technology to prevent drugs from entering the US. While the bloc led by Switzerland would like to have different regulations for soft and had drugs respectively. They connote the importance of reducing penalties and discrimination on people suffering from soft drugs addiction; focusing on providing mental and physical support for hard drugs addicts to reduce harm.
But as it was the last session of the whole ismun, delegates seem restless and hence less active. “Since everyone is tired, then should we all finish earlier?” The chair asked the delegates. They then respond with an easy passing of both solutions, no POIs and no friendly or unfriendly amendments. The council used merely 5 minutes to finish the whole voting process and ended the session an hour earlier for the real highlight of the 2 days conference - ‘banter box’ and gossip. An anonymous delegate provided a pick up line for muner: “Can I be your point of personal privilege?” evoking loud cheers and applause from the crowd. Unfortunately, the sender and receiver was not specified, if not they will probably leave the conference with a partner.
After half an hour of banter box exposure and juicy gossip, the council find themselves interrupted by enthusiastic singers from UNESCO which is just beside the UNODC conference room. But nonetheless, everyone was enjoying the overwhelming happiness of each others’ enthusiasm. The conference ended with a hopeful “delegates, delegates, delegates, goodbye and see you again”.
Quoting from one of the resting chairs in the closing ceremony, “I have learnt from the years of MUNing that the best resolution is the friendships I have made throughout the years.” May all delegates remember everything you have learnt from the conference because ‘all the efforts and preparation of the chairs, no matter how much there were, will be useless if you don’t remember what you have learnt. So, DON’T YOU DARE FORGET THEM.’
