ABOUT US

ISMUNK Logo .png

ISMUNHK is a local, student-led Model United Nations conference established in 2018. In past iterations, we have been supported by institutions such as the Hong Kong Metropolitan University, UNESCO HK and UNESCO Glocal Peace Centre. We aim to bring awareness and knowledge of global issues through discussion and debate on varied topics, with the common objective of promoting quality dialogue on various world issues, and most importantly, the United Nations’ founding principles. ISMUNHK’s vision is that all secondary school students, no matter their background or ability, should be given opportunities to be involved in international affairs.

OUR THEME

For ISMUNHK 2025, our theme is “Envision to Elevate”, symbolising our commitment to fostering a new generation of leaders ready to tackle global issues. By continuing to emphasise critical thinking and inclusivity, we encourage our delegates to envision innovative solutions to the world’s challenges while actively engaging in international discourse, elevating the calibre of debate in committee sessions and their understanding of the intricate dynamics in international relations. Ultimately, we seek to create a transformative experience that empowers students to imagine a better world by providing a platform to voice their concerns, ideas, and aspirations for a more equitable and sustainable future.

HONG KONG METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) is a public university in Ho Man Tin, Kowloon, Hong Kong. HKMU is notable for being the first self-financing university set up by the Hong Kong government and focuses on providing professional, applied, and practical academic programs that align with market needs.

Over the past few years, the Hong Kong Metropolitan University has kindly offered its venue to ISMUNHK for our conference, providing timely support to the Executive Board regarding conference logistics and technical assistance before and during the event. This collaboration highlights HKMU's commitment to fostering educational initiatives and community engagement. We look forward to hosting the conference at the university once more in June of 2025, and to continue this valuable partnership that enhances the learning experience for all participants.

UNESCO HK AND UNESCO GLOCAL PEACE CENTRE

UNESCO Hong Kong Association Limited is a charitable institution under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance, a member of the Chinese National Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations, and a regional reporting member of the United Nations Global Compact. It is dedicated to facilitating and achieving UNESCO's mission, creating conditions for dialogue among civilisations, cultures and peoples based upon respect for commonly shared values. Through constructing dialogue, we hope the world can achieve global visions of sustainable development encompassing observance of human rights, mutual respect and poverty alleviation. It strives to conduct peacebuilding efforts and facilitate the sustainable development of society, economy and environment through education, the sciences and culture. We aim to uphold the mission and objectives of UNESCO, launch programmes and activities per UNESCO objectives, leverage Hong Kong’s technology and talents to support its long-term development and strengthen Hong Kong’s roles in international affairs and activities.

This is the sixth year that UNESCO HK has supported ISMUNHK in organising its Model United Nations (MUN) Conference in Hong Kong. ISMUNHK actively promotes the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) first proposed by the United Nations in 2015. We sincerely hope that local students will have a deeper understanding of the SDGs by discussing the various issues at our conference and are encouraged to discover further ways of putting the SDGs into practice.

SPOTLIGHT ON OTHER INITIATIVES

ANNUAL DONATIONS

Since 2023, we have donated 100 HKD for every registered delegate to a charity of our choice. In the first year of the programme’s establishment, we donated to the Syria Cross-Border Humanitarian Fund, supporting the United Nations' life-saving assistance to those severely affected by the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake near the Türkiye-Syria border.

In 2024, we donated to IBEL HK, a registered charity based in Hong Kong, focused on empowering students from underserved Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) communities. The organisation aims to provide these children with essential educational support, particularly in learning the Chinese language, to help them navigate their ongoing education effectively.

This is only the first step for ISMUNHK to extend the spirit of modelling the United Nations to formulate concrete actions that can make a difference in the lives of others. Only through such passion for making a change in the world can we encourage all delegates to be responsible global citizens and leaders in the future.

ISMUNHK 2025 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

After our record-high number of 600+ attendees last year, ISMUNHK aims to introduce our Scholarship Programme for local schools in Hong Kong to further reinforce our commitment towards inclusivity and equality within the expanses of HK’s MUN circuit for our 2025 iteration, tentatively slated to be held on the 28th-29th of June. The programme aims to empower student representatives from these schools based on merit and aspirations, targeting local school students from Form 4-6 to receive full scholarships to attend the upcoming conference.
